I took this appart some time ago and don’t recall there being a spring return to keep the prawls extended to enage with the clutch dogs.
Don’t see what I’m missing here. I’m not finding anything in the parts diegarams that look like a spring. Please advise.

October 17, 2025 at 8:48 pm #300715Oh boy, this looks like fun. I do recall these springs now that I see the picture.
Might be a winter day in February project or possibly the donate pile at Tomahawk new year.
Place your bets!
I have two TD-20’s should anyone need parts. Coil tested positive on one, I haven’t checked the other. Motors are complete as far as I can tell minus the pawl springs, contact me if anyone wants parts.
Thanks for the quick response.

If your the type that likes to fabricate and has some patience, I suspect it can be done. Its a lot of on again, off again, to see if there engaging. Then running the motor to see if there pulling in. Me and a friend spent quite a bit of time one day trying to make some but never could get the tension just right. These assemblies are plentiful at Tomahawk. Most are in different stages of completion but I did find one with all the springs. Doug Penn had a complete one on eBay not that long ago.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

October 19, 2025 at 8:55 am #300769Thanks Tubs,
I do enjoy a challenge but see this one as you experienced a time consuming endeevor with marignal results. Agreed, the better option would be to find a good assembly or a parts recoil. I don’t want to invest a lot of time in these motors as I plan to sell, donate or give away.
Both are in good shape and are by no means “junk motors” it shouldn’t take a lot to get them running again. I also have two sets of leathers for the carb rebuild I purchased from Lloyd Lawton in Traverse city a few years ago. Be a good motor for a young enthusiest I give for the taking.
Did you attend Tomahawk in 2025?
