      My 850 Mercury I picked up last month had no spark and had been converted to cdi unit. I snagged a used coil and a new switch box ( cheap ) . I found an orig distributor ( feebay ) I wanted to be sure it worked before putting it together. How to test? VERY carefully!! 😛
      It worked!! I’m good to go now
