I need a little help in understanding The coil operation and testing procedure for the early coils that are used on two cylinder motors.
Do both these sparkplug wires spark together ?
In testing the secondary circuit do I attach my ohmmeter on the two sparkplug connectors and hope for continuity ?
This coil is off an 30’s Evinrude Speeditwin.
Thank you for your helpDecember 17, 2018 at 12:56 pm #160446December 17, 2018 at 6:42 pm #1605131st picture is Speedifour, one coil ok, other shows no continuity between sparkplug leads, I removed both coils and removed the sparkplug leads to eliminate bad leads.
Second picture is a coil from a 29 Fastwin also tests bad secondary.
Any suggestions for replacements ?December 17, 2018 at 11:28 pm #160550December 18, 2018 at 3:27 pm #160643Thanks, Tubs.
What about those surplus coils being sold on the internet? They are two terminal secondary. Maybe I can adapt them.
I appreciate your help and will let you know what I learn.December 18, 2018 at 4:06 pm #160645I think the surplus coils you mention would be perfect. Let us know how you make out.

December 23, 2018 at 9:21 am #161070In the process of adopting the surplus coils (Big Rich) to my Speedifour laminations. I think I will leave the lamination bar in the surplus coil and fasten to my Speedifour lamination. I’ll keep ypu informed.
