Hello all, I’m try to find parts and info on setting up tiller rope steering controls for my Mercury KF 7. I have the steering wheel and drum installed. Did Mercury sell parts to convert the tiller handle, throttle and shifting lever?
It looks like the deadman throttle is the way to go, but how does that move the shifter from neutral to forward? Photos or parts numbers would be most helpful.
thanksMarch 27, 2022 at 10:54 am #256910The KF7 does not have a shifting lower unit. Once you start the motor, you are off and running. How the KH7 has a shifting lower unit but I do not think there are any provisions to adapt the shift and throttle. You might be better off switching to a MK20 or MK25 as there are kits to make it have remote steering, throttle and shift.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
March 28, 2022 at 2:08 pm #257042Thanks for your input. Are they original equipment? Or is this just how people figured it out?

April 14, 2022 at 7:00 am #258207Old Mercs has a steering bar for KF, KG7.. Lists at $60.
April 14, 2022 at 1:07 pm #258221$60 ? Make one, it’s just a piece of flat stock. Bend it to look like the one Tubs pictured and drill some holes in it. In the right place, at the right time, it’s in the scrap bin at a welding or fab shop and you’ll get it for a polite smile.

April 16, 2022 at 9:36 am #258381Thanks again for your help all, so what do we think the steering bar should be made out of? Bronze brass stainless aluminum? Any idea were to find the original dimensions? Installing the deadman throttle today and filling the fabric on forward deck.
