There were many of these manufactured & still many still out there but it seems none with good compression ,still good runners . (It must run& start easy). Now I,m told there are no rings available for this outboard anymore ? I want one of these for nostalgic reasons. Is there a member out there that is capable, if I was to send you a power head to rebuild it, or has one that they would do for us ? Will pay all the shipping, cost of the rings & your labor. Already have all the other good components, just need the powerhead new rings ,hone the cyls done etc eugeneschreiber@frontier.com
Most of them still have good compression because they ran on 16:1 fuel oil mix and the primer seals went bad before the cylinders and rings wore out. What compression does your motor have? If it has 70-75 PSI it will start run and idle AOK. Best I ever measured on one was 77 PSI. I have some new old stock rings but never needed to use them. I don’t want to rebuild a powerhead, but I have the rings if you need them.

Both TN 28 that I have were below 60 lb on both cyl. This is a outboard that I definitely want to be a good runner ,will be used by the Wife & I,also by the Grand kids. I have dug into the power head, waiting on rings and already have technical questions. Power heads have never been my expertise. The cylinders, crankshaft, wrist pins are all very good, but assembly is a issue right now. Geneee
Not just one but TWO TN’s with BELOW 60 PSI on BOTH cylinders???? I can honestly say that I have never seen any TN with less than 65-67 PSI. But you have two with less than 60PSI on BOTH cylinders??? I strongly suspect that your compression checks were inaccurate. Compression gauge wrong? Incorrect procedure to check compression? Rings stuck from sitting too long? I am a slow typist. Give me a call and maybe I can help you out. 231-929-7479
