OK – ran it in a bigger tank and no real issues. I still think the exhaust cover is pretty hot, but that is to be expected if it is not part of the cooling circuit. I had it running for at least 5 minutes before the video, and as you can see I am able to touch everything but the exhaust cover with no issues. Problem resolved!!

One last question – the throttle lever does not have enough tension and it self-adjusts to a lower setting. Is there a way to adjust the tension without taking off the top of the motor? On the TN 28 that I am working on, I noticed that someone drilled a bunch of holes in the aluminum trim that that lever moves across. At first I thought that was just to hang lures, but I think it might also have been to put in a peg that would hold the throttle at a set position. I thought of trying to bend the lever up a little so that it rubs on the gas tank, but didn’t know if there is a better option.

Thanks for all your help!! I know just enough to be dangerous

I don’t have the parts manual for that motor but the mag might have a friction screw or a wave washer on it to hold the position. Believe me, you don’t want the lever rubbing on anything. it’s going to rattle and drive you nuts!
