Tubs, I remember the day that guy in the trailer pulled up and went all the way down the runway. It looked like a heard of cows heading to the feeding trough!
For those who cannot be there before Wednesday let me say this….We arrive late Tuesday and set up on Wednesday after driving 1400 miles from Florida in 2 days. The meet officially begins Wednesday. There is soooo much stuff to see, and it is still there Friday. Don’t let the idea that "the best is sold on Monday and Tuesday" get you down. You will not be disappointed. You never know what might show up on the last day either. Years ago my traveling partner James was looking for an early ’60’s OMC 35 for a boat he was finishing up. There wasn’t one there. But in the middle of the day on Saturday a fellow drove in with a trailer and I told James, "There’s your motor"– and it was just what he was looking for!
I look forward to seeing the people before I see the motors and parts.

June 7, 2016 at 10:02 pm #378532015 was my first Tomahawk meeting and something George didn’t mention was that on the last couple of days some real bargains go down. Even while folks are packing up! Motors and parts are talked about that didn’t make the show. Overall there is an awful lot going on at the scene and behind the scenes.
It is awesome!
June 7, 2016 at 10:15 pm #37855Yea don’t be worried about not having the best selection if you arrive on Tuesday, there is lots to buy even on Friday when this cheap old bugger has got some of his best deals!! Drop by and say Hi we are always camped on the last site on the river front next to the bush, look for a motorhome with a cargo trailer, a 5th wheel and a truck camper all crowded on 1 site!
June 8, 2016 at 12:14 am #37863First time for me last year and I was a little frustrated, for setting up to sell items. Couldn’t make it their until opening day. Had a site way out in left field, far away from main sales. Was told all the sites were taken up, that’s all that was left, not very profitable. Talked with a few people and they said you should have been here Monday and Tuesday, the place was packed, selling like mad. They seem to put the blame on the city, concerning camping fees, Etc.
Sounds like AOMCI had the same spot for years, maybe if show starts on Thursday, have vendors set up the night before after 6PM, to get ready for opening day. Car Shows and swap meets do that all the time, and have great success. ( Just my 2 cents worth.)
Good meet to go to, very friendly and helpful people, made more friends and had lots of fun.June 8, 2016 at 12:21 am #37864Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I have heard about some of the crazy deals that go down near the end of the meet. I guess that’s what I’m really after anyway, so if that’s the best time for that then this may be the perfect time for me anyway. Like Al says he is, I am cheap so I’m all about the deals. It is actually Thursday afternoon when I will get there, not Tuesday like my earlier post originally said. Dang autocorrect ‘fixed’ that one for me. 🙄
Al, I will definitely look for you while I’m there.and drop by and say Hi. I’m definitely looking forward to going. I’m going to Constantine for a day at the end of my 4th of July family up North vacation this year too. I’ll see how that goes. It will be a long day of driving but hopefully worth it. It should get me primed for Tomahawk anyway, like I’ll need that.

June 8, 2016 at 2:34 am #37879This is a dilemma I have faced with the meet also. I unfortunately will not be able to camp there this year as we will be about 60 miles north at Lac du Flambeau for a family vacation. Kevin and I will be heading down anyway at least 1 day. I play in a concert band, (Kenosha Pop’s) and we have gigs on Wednesday nights. I pull the equipment trailer, so I really need to be there. A few years ago I did make it on Wednesday, but usually we arrive on Thursday morning. (Airstream trailer and blue 86 GMC Suburban) Lots of the items have traded hands by then, but there is still a lot of things for sale. I also have found that the free motors are usually available on Saturday as folks are pulling out. Last year we felt sorry for a 53 Corsair Navigator 5hp, that we found a place for. (This motor closed out our season here in southern Wisconsin in early December! ) I agree that it would be nice for the north woods chapter to find a way to make it at least a Wed-Sat event, and figure out a way to discourage folks from being all set up on the previous weekend. A lot of these folks then are ready to pull out on Thursday. Last year with the poor weather, it was more understandable, but it is still a great show, and I wouldn’t miss it.
Also don’t forget that there are the water events, and this is one of the things that make this such a special event. Outboards are supposed to be run, so it is always fun to get out on the water and show off your latest projects.

June 8, 2016 at 8:16 pm #37933No matter what I am very much looking forward to going this year. This is certainly not like any other swap meet that I have been to for anything else. Those are always run where the vendors set up no earlier than the day before opening like Necks said in his post. My wife and I both have Air Cooled VWs (mine is a sandrail 😎 ). I have been to a lot of those meets and motorcycle meets and they are all much the same and nothing like this. That’s OK though, maybe sometime I’ll get to go and see what it is like if I get there on Monday. I’m sure it is a different scene than I will see getting there on Thursday afternoon. I’m really hoping to score some deals to expand my collection. I built a rack for the back of my truck and it’s ready to haul some treasures home.
I read one of Steve’s earlier posts about the Corsair freebie he rescued on a Saturday and that one got me pretty excited about being there when I will be there. We’ll see if I can fill the rack… 😉
