Not being an experienced mechanic, I’ve finally worked up the courage to replace the top crankshaft seal on my Scott 5. It doesn’t leak much, but it’s enough to oil the points. (By the way, is there another possible source of oil on the points?)
The upper bearings show no radial play whatever. I can’t see any evidence of the reason the seal failed.
So – how to remove the seal without damaging the crankshaft sealing surface? Is there a special tool? A special technique? Hoping the Scott specialists will chime in here…
