What would be the ideal transom height to run a Johnson P or PO on a "racing" utility?
I am setting up an old Whirlwind that was run in BU and maybe CU. it has had various things added to the transom over the years and currently has the front of an old Trico windshield wiper display wrapped over it. I don’t have any motors to measure here at home. I will run a service length midsection. Any input would be helpful.

Depends a lot on the propeller, and if the boat has an external keel. Some will go with a 17" transom.

The propeller will be a non surfacing type and run fully submerged to keep the RPMs in check. The boat appears to have come with no outer keel. There is a fin on the center line of the bottom, about 4′ ahead of the transom.
The transom is currently setup at about 17". The boat was run with a 20h that the owner converted to Q length. From what I have been told, he had a hard time getting it set up right.
