I am installing new transom wood on my ’53 Alumacraft. The screws I removed were aluminum and a few of them broke. I can’t find them at any hardware stores. Can I use stainless steel screws? I’m concerned about corrosion.

You can get aluminum wood screws but might have to order them.

There are many flavors of aluminum and of stainless steel. It is possible to get corrosion due to the electrical dissimilarity involved. I use hardware stainless in the limited transom wood replacement I’ve done, but it’s a good idea to keep an eye on them.

I use 316 SS all the time in boats, they work great and adequate chromium for zip corrosion in wood even in sea water. Just make sure the SS is 316 and not available at Home Depot, Lowes thpe stores. I also use 316 SS anchor nails. I do repairs on wood with epoxy + varnish for bright work.

Thanks Gents; I’ll try the 316’s.
