Working on a Mercury Mark 10. I’ve heard they are a challenge, but that is something I am open to working on.

It is an Automatic Transmission, and it does shift smoothly from F-N-R.

I can’t seem to figure out what is going on with the “Troll,” “Run,” “Start” lever, it seems to just be bending the rod connecting to the mag plate.

I’m learning more about Mercs as I go, so I figured I should learn how to service and properly operate the Automatic Transmission motors.

I know the water pumps are a bit of a challenge to replace, but I have the ability to get or make tools to do so.

If anyone has advice, who has worked on these before, please let me know!

      Thanks!

        Aidan,

The best explanation of this is on John’s Old Mercury site in a couple posts by John Timmons. Well worth the read!

Absolutely.  John has done a stellar job of documenting his restoration work on auto-trans.  Great pictures and a step by step explanation of what to do.

the troll lever should advance the mag. look for parts that should move easy.
