I purchased a 1951 RD-10. The twist grip does not go back to the shift or stop line. My question is can I remove the gear at the end of the grip turn the grip until it lines up to the stop mark and reinstall the gear. I have sent some pics.As you can see the throttle cable is at its stop limit. Also this motor has a stamped hole on the port side rear. There is a rod that is threaded inside sticking out towards this hole.Just wondering what this may be for. Thank you very much in advance for your time and advice. Russ….
August 23, 2016 at 8:58 pm #42578Hello Russ, welcome.
The hole and the post mounted to the bypass cover are for remote hookups for the throttle. It is a pretty rare and early (after market) system that was somewhat complicated. It was quickly replaced when OMC
developed their own remote hookups. I have some pictures of what it looked like if you’re interested. As for rotating the twist grip so the arrows line up better, yes it can be done. I will look in my manual to see if there are specifics about how to put it back together to line up correctly. Again, the cable was also quickly replaced by the tower system because it was a bit complicated and more vulnerable than the tower type system.
I would like to see more pics of that motor. RD-10 models are somewhat rare. Lots of 13s and higher but the 10s and 11s are few and far between.

Here’s a nice ad for that motor, thought you might like.
free uploadAugust 24, 2016 at 11:41 pm #42617your RD-10 has the original large exhaust hole on the gear case. usually they’ve been replaced with later smaller versions due to cracking, etc. yes! non-painted power heads are indeed coveted and indeed were factory. clean ’em up and you’re done!
August 25, 2016 at 12:42 am #42619I just bought a rough looking 1952 QD-13 at Tomahawk and it has an unpainted powerhead. It looks pretty tough now but it may get some cosmetics too if it turns out well mechanically. I won’t know that for a while. It’s got a few in line ahead of it. The price was right, though, so I thought I’d give it a go.
