      (1) Took the handle, gaskets and diaphragm off. The area under the button had what looked like a lot of sand or powder in it. And the inside of the this same area looked kinda nasty — not exactly corroded, but messed up. What causes this? Is this just dirt and grime from someone’s thumb over the last 60 years?

      (2) My parts manual shows a metal disc on either side of the diaphragm, but the kit I bought only comes with a disc for the underside. Also, when I took the tank apart there was only the one disc on the underside. Am i reading the parts diagram wrong or am I missing a part?

      Thanks.

Thanks, Garry. I think this clears things up.

I must have the later fuel tank (2nd picture). In that 2nd diagram, you can see there is only one disc (part 38) whereas in the first diagram there are two (part 46, two pieces). Also, the tank I have does not have the removable "ears" (part 23 in first diagram). I guess the tank was replaced at some point as the motor it came with was a Johnson CD-10 (1954).

            Thanks again!

I’m travelling on business this week, Stan, but I will give you a call if I get a minute.

              Thanks for the offer!
