Hello to all,
In the words of famed newscaster Gabriel Heatter, “There’s good news tonight”!
I want to thank everybody that gave me some advice on this especially Tubs and Seakaye.
So I was able to verify compression on the motor today. I’m getting 60 on one side and about 63 or 65 on the other. I was pretty sure I would get compression because when I removed the exhaust manifold I was able to see a bright silver ring no scratches on the Pistons and the Rings compressed slightly when I pushed on them.
I put the Magneto on the crankcase and put the flywheel on setting the points the way tub said to and I have spark on both sides! Looks to be good strong Spark.
So the next is the carburetor. Does anybody have any advice before I open it up?
I’ve already dropped the lower unit and have been Hand cleaning and soaking With B12 chem tool To get all the Heavy grease out of the bottom end.
I’m having a hard time with how this water pump works. If it has a water pump, which would be piston style, I sure can’t find it.
As for cleaning it up I was planning on using some naval jelly on the jugs. Would you use anything else anybody?
Thanks again any other advice I would be more than willing to accept. I’m trying to get this running for a friend.
Best regards to all stay well
John Gragg

Nothing to the carb, Only thing is the barrel that the mixture lever is attach to must be rotated to the proper position for it to slide out.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Also, for carburetor advice, try taking pictures of how the parts are oriented and attached before you disassemble them. This is especially helpful is reassembly gets posponed for some reason.
