I have a 62 Mercury 700 and when I was at a boat shop last year I inquired about what it would take to upgrade the controls to a newer model. What I was told is that I needed a “Mercury Mark 1 to Gen 2 Adapter”. I’ve searched high and low for this part with no success, and I’m not even sure if the guy was correct in his terminology or that it could be done at all.
While I like the vintage look of my current control box, it’s getting a bit long in the tooth and I would like to replace it, with the intention of perhaps stripping the old one down and rebuilding and repainting it later.
So is there actually some sort of adapter that would allow me to upgrade my control box?

April 4, 2022 at 1:48 pm #257467The answer is, use your electrical. then use any merc control you want.
It is full gear shift correct.
April 4, 2022 at 6:15 pm #257476Yes, it’s full gear shift but I don’t know what you mean by “use your electrical”.

April 7, 2022 at 5:55 am #257599I believe this is what they were talking about, in your original post, for an adapter. Connects a cowl mounted wiring harness to the newer style, round plug, found on later (but still old by today’s standards)) control boxes.
