      How do you hook up a car coil…to provide spark for a johnson?? run a + wire to the points..then to the coil?

          Connect battery ( – ) to ground, Ground the coil to block, connect battery ( + ) to coil +, connect coil – to points, unhook motor coil and leave condenser connected. Put a switch in the + circuit and depending on the coil used you may need a ballast resistor. If this is a two cylinder with two points , you will need two sets of coils.

            Johnson coils are dirt cheap….. so which motor???

                  I think we still need to know what model. Or at least, whether the points are normally closed and open to fire, or normally open and close to fire.

                  If they are normally closed and open to fire, you wouldn’t want the coil energized without the motor running.

                      Some motors fire when the points open, other fire upon closing of the points..

                        A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
