So I bought a new multi-meter since my old one was not working properly. When testing a set of horse collar
coils I get the following readings:

      Coil 1 – setting 2000 = 1.0
      setting 20k = 3.40
      setting 200k = 3.20
      Coil 2 – setting 2000 = 1.0
      setting 20k = 3.73
      setting 200k = 3.50

So what did I find out? I don’t know what the values mean.

Coil 1 – setting 2000 = 1.0….. scale to low to read properly
setting 20k = 3.40 ……………..reading shows 3400 ohms and is likely the proper value at the best scale possible
setting 200k = 3.20……………..reading shows 3200 ohms which is a small variance from 3400 due to the scale sensitivity

Coil 2 – setting 2000 = 1.0……. scale to low to read properly
setting 20k = 3.73……………….reading shows 3730 ohms and is likely the proper value at the best scale possible
setting 200k = 3.50………………reading shows 3500 ohms which is a small variance from 3730 due to the scale sensitivity

inconclusion both coils are ” similar” in resistance but….. I do not know if they are within the expected range… my best guest is that they are ok … being similar

Here’s a good reference on checking coils and points using a multimeter. Clearly written and very helpful.

            OK. Thanks.
Since my old meter had a multiple of 1000 setting the math was easy with a reading of 3.73.
I was wondering if I had to multiply the 3.73 by 2000 with the new model.
