For V4 water pumps, Marineengine shows a "383879 — COVER & SEAL ASSY., IMP.HSG." The seal–goes in the bottom–is on the pictorial as a separate item but isn’t listed as such. Anybody have a part number or dimensions for this seal?

It’s 85ESL72R, Ser #J3678363. Has a plastic impeller housing in it if that matters.

I believe the plastic housings use a cavity filled with water to seal the driveshaft area? Someone will correct me if I am wrong. Later model motors all use this technique. There will be a small passage that keeps the area full of water from the pump which provides the seal while running. No wear and works very well.

There is a triangular metal item that holds the water tube grommets and a couple of seals around the drive shaft. One is a grommet on top that mates with a passage in the ex housing, and there’s a lip seal with gaiter spring under that.

I have the same understanding about the water fill setup, and it could be that the seal isn’t necessary , or isn’t important, with the plastic housing. But I don’t see the expected passage in the housing to feed the seal cavity. Will look again.
