      Hi All,

I have inherited 2 old motors that I know nothing about and was hoping a member could point me in the right direction. One engine is an Elgin #571.58751 and the other is a Western Auto Supply #WD-3S. These motors have not been restored and look like they’ve been sitting in a garage for the past 50 years. They both have compression and the prop rotates when pulled but other than that, I don’t know if they run. Can anyone tell me if these 2 motors are worth anything and if they are, what would be a fair price or if they are worthless and would I be better off scrapping them out. Any info is much appreciated.

      Thanks in advance,

      Tneca

Sears sold lots of Elgin, so they’re a common motor, but good runners when serviced.
I’m not sure, but the Western Auto may be one made by Mercury. Most likely fewer
of those. Condition is everything, but I’m guessing they would sell in the $50 to $100
dollar range. Location makes a difference as well.
I’d rather see them in a collectors hands for repair or parts, than go to scrap.
You can list them in the free classifieds on this site if you decide to sell them.

Thanks for the feedback, Buc. I will post them on the classified but like I said, I’m extremely ignorant when it comes to these motors and I didn’t even know where to start pricing or if anybody would want them. I’m located in the metro Detroit area so we don’t have quite as many lakes as Minnesota but we have the best lake in St. Clair.

Yep, the Wizard WD-3S is more or less a Mercury.

Elgin brand outboards made for Sears post WW2 to late 1950s by West Bend Aluminum.

Wizard brand outboards were made  for Western Auto by Kiekhaefer from 1940 thru late 1950s.WD3S is similar to Mercury KD3S, Both date to 1946 to 1948 or so.
