This topic is more or less like the orbit of a comet…… it shows up once every so many years, then goes away for a long period of time… then eventually resurfaces, enjoys a brief stay in the sunlight, then heads back off to the nether regions of the universe… et cetera, et cetera, et cetera…. just sayin’
Best,

T2How much oil should you put in an antique versus a classic ? 😉
August 18, 2015 at 9:55 pm #22281Don’t get hung up on the names, antique or classic. The idea was that the earliest category has a "cut-off" based on significant engineering changes in the general outboard market. Yes, there were a few outlier motors both earlier and later that 1950, but generally that was a good point to draw a line. So, back to the question… just for conversation, is there another logical cut-off for some second category (we now call Classic but could be named something else)

August 18, 2015 at 11:02 pm #22287"Obsolete" is what I hear most these days. Somewhere between ancient and "I charge $125 for a look". But obsolete is effective during negotiations. 🙂

T2Well, I missed Halley’s Comet back in 1986, and I don’t know if I will be around in 2061 for the return

August 19, 2015 at 6:54 pm #22343well fiberglass hoods started with homelite and omc in the 50’s mercury much much later.
August 19, 2015 at 8:39 pm #22356I don’t know right off what the club definitions.
Here’s a suggestion:
60 years and older——antique
30 to 60 years———classic
0 to 30 years——–modernThe categories creep towards the present one year at a time.
