I have recently acquired two 1966 Sea King outboard engines. A 20 horsepower and a 9.2 horsepower. Both have low compression with the 9.2 at only 30 lb but even between both cylinders. The 20 horsepower is about 50 lb with both cylinders even. I am considering a ring job for both engines but so far have been unable to locate parts,  like powerhead gaskets and rings for either engine. Would appreciate any info on this subject. Thanks, Richard Barber

Possible that the 9.2 has a blown head gasket between the two cylinders?
Are the rings stuck in the grooves on either motor?

          Prepare to be boarded!

Richard if those motors were mine I would check for a stuck or sticky rings.   I suggest pulling the plugs out and spinning the motors with an electric motor.  Soak those cylinders with a thin liquid maybe wd40 or some mineral spirits.  Has the motor been setting?   Compression readings may be suspect if the old kickers have not run in a while.   Spin the heck out of them with a drill motor let them set for a while then do it again.   I will bet you compression will come up at least enough to get them running.  Most of these old motors run better the more you run them.   If they have no spark clean the points.  Also welcome to our club and good luck.

If they were mine I would set them sparkplug side up

and pour  Seafoam in the cylinders and let them soak

              for a couple days.

              Then retake comp readings.

Yes, Steve has a good idea too!
