      hello,

I have a leak on the lower left corner of the water jacket cover plate on my MD-39.(lower right corner in the photo) I had a gasket made out of a paper-ish material that is not very compressible. Is there a material I can use like a silicon or gel like gasket goop that I can maybe coat both sides of the new gasket so I can compress down tighter? to my eye, both surfaces appear flat but I can’t get the leak to stop. Maybe if I let it continue it will seal itself over time?

      thanks for any help

      Hugh

What type of gasket sealant did you use?
I use Permatex Aviation Sealant (kind of like the old Indian Head sealant)
on most general gaskets, and it seems to work well.
You may need a thicker gasket as well.

          Thanks Buccaneer,

Did not use any sealant, just the gasket material. I will try Permatex aviation. should I apply to both sides of gasket?

sort of a PBJ approach? should I use 2 gaskets with the sealant?

          thanks for your help!

I wouldn’t go any thinner than 1/32″ thick on the gasket material.
One gasket should do it. Personally, I’d coat both sides of the gasket
            with the Permatex.

If your not successful with what you have or
it fails after a bit here is something that could
work for you. Might be able to find it cheaper
if you shop around some if you decide to try it.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I am half way into the 24 hour  cure period for the Permatex aviation  sealant. have to wait until 8PM tonight then going to crank her up.

hopefully that takes care of it but if not, it’s good to have another solution in the pen.

Thank you to both of you!
