Gentlemen,
Before ordering parts for my Goodyear Seabee 025-3564 I wanted to make sure the passageway for water to cool the engine was clear. I Didn’t have any luck trying to squirt water up the small passageway adjacent to the water pump rotor so decided to try what I assumed would be the exhaust for the water. So I squirted it up the large opening just above the prop, water came out the water intake where the water pump rotor would normally push it in. Water also exited the small vents just below the motor and the small tube that comes out of the motor.
After thinking about it I’m wondering if I forced water up the engine exhaust and if I could have forced water into maybe the crankcase or combustion chambers. I pulled the plugs, there’s no evidence of any moisture in the combustion chambers. Can anyone tell me if I’ve probably forced water up where it shouldn’t go?
What’s the function of the small tube? Water was exiting it also.

Yes you f’d up. Pickle that motor immediately. Use WD40 and then a gas/oil mix of 10:1 to run through the engine.
Have the plugs out and grounded and turn the engine over 100 times.There is a flushing screw on the starboard side of the lower unit. Use it and not the exhaust opening.

October 19, 2016 at 1:21 am #46087FYI, the small bent tube is a crankcase puddle drain. The fact that water came out there means the crankcase had water in it. Not good.

I had to google "Pickle an Outboard Motor" to understand what that meant but yes I did. Pulled the plugs & grounded them, Put about 3/4 cups of fuel & oil mixture down the carburetor and cranked the heck out of it. The little crankcase bubble drain FrankR described had the fuel/ oil mixture bubbling out oif it. I hope I didn’t do any damage. Thanks for the help!
