hello, i have a 1937 waterwitch 2 cylinder. it runs great with very little work but dont know if i can depend on the old coil to get me across the lake. i know tubbs posted a video on a coil conversion with a john deere pony coil but i looked at old threads and cant find info ,or are there any other coils that might work. thanks

II haven’t had any experience substituting the pony
coil. The Buccaneer has made an attempt. I also
have these pictures with instructions that were
posted MAS some time ago. I have 2 twin Witch’s
and the coil works in both so I haven’t felt the need
to attempt the conversion. MAS’s modifications
seems to be done using only hand tools. BobW
told me of a possible source for rewinding but
it wouldn’t be a priority for him so he wont give
an estimate on time. If you decide to do the
conversion let us know how it works out.

hello , i found a coil that looks like it will fit under the flywheel with some modification to the laminate. the coil is for a kohler m18 which is not a points ignition.will this work with a points ignition? i just read in another thread that it wont work? i am asking because its MUCH cheaper than the pony coil

My experience is electronic ignition coils
wont work with points. I looked at the ing.
dia. for the coil you have found. It doesn’t
have a electronic trigger like the coil I have
been experimenting with. Is it in the coil?
Will the trigger I have been experimenting
work with that coil? My understand of how
electronic things function ends with the light
bulb. Most of what I know is self thought.
Try it. If it doesn’t work, try something else.

Tubs, do we know if the MAS pony coil conversion was successful?

As I remember it was. Its not likely I would
have saved it if it wasn’t.

thanks, i’m still a little confused with the light bulb but i will give it a try when i get a chance.the laminate is about 1/2 inch so i think theres a chance the pony coil will fit after i mess with it
