What’s the weird looking nut for on the Johnson?

December 8, 2015 at 3:06 am #28206I just found a LL Bean 1950 Hunting/Fishing catalog and they offered a trolling plate which fit up to 10 HP outboards. The plate had a prop shaft opening and was placed on the prop shaft leaving the prop in its original location.A special nut was provided to secure both on shaft. It cost $3.43 PPD.
