      Removing the welsh (expansion) plug from the carb on a `57 Sea King 12hp. Do I need sealant on the replacement?

        I use clear finger nail polish from the dollar store it contains the same stuff as airplane dope and so far seems resistant to fuel.

        but the most important part is sealing the air leaks and it works fine . just give it a coat around the rim

          I install the plug, then apply some sort of sealer around the edge afterward. That eliminates the risk of getting any in the tiny holes below the plug. The sealer is only a second line of defense anyway, not really100% necessary.
