      I have heard that I can use a regular Chrysler fitting. I have one of the teal green Elgin 7.5’s and I see it has the funky fitting with the lock similar to a glass fuel bowl. The power heads look mostly identical save for the Muskie being labelled as 8hp and has the pulley system for the throttle. Any experts who know what kind of hose fitting I need? I was going to swap mags but after pulling the flywheels they both look half decent and I can always put an omc coil on the wico lams. I figure the Muskie is cooler than the Elgin so I would start with that. Thanks for any advice and guidance

        West Bend (and the private brands) had several style fuel fittings depending on the year or horsepower. Unfortunately there is no modern replacement unless you have the Chrysler/Force style that came out in the early 1960s. (Want to say 1963)

        I believe your Muskie should have the first of the connectors in the photos below – your best bet with that style is to clamp a hose to the male fitting on the motor and adapt whatever fitting you have to it. It’s not neat but will get the job done. If you have access to a pile of Chrysler parts motors, you may be able to find a male fitting that will screw into the place of the older Elgin one. I was lucky enough to find one years ago but don’t know what model it came off – I suspect an early 60s WB 40hp. The male fitting has to be long & thin to work with the threading and length of the pan. Personally, I’d just go with the hose adapter until you stumble across the correct connector.

        Motor end

        7.5hp F/N motors late 50s early 60s – I think this is the "fuel bowl" fitting you note on your Elgin.

        Motor end

        Early 1950s 16hp (The motors aren’t that common and the fuel connector is wicked rare!)

        Motor end looks like the ’55+ but I don’t think they are interchangeable.

          Well I know the Elgin has the wacky hexagon barrel fitting but looks like the west bend has the first style you posted. I assume I can use any regular tank and just shove the hose over the fitting and clamp it?

            I’m using standard Chrysler replacement fittings on a west bend golden shark and they work fine.

              wannabe outboard guy – if you have the part # or fittment for the Chrysler male fitting that will replace the WB one, I’d be interested to know what it is. There were a zillon different ones – as I noted above, it needs to be the right thread and length.

                Not really sure what the part # was. I bought the male and female fittings at my local Fleet Farm store. They were in blister packs on the wall with all the J/E and Merc fittings. They were made or I should say "sold" by either Atwood or Quicksilver.

                  Yep, I did the Chrysler fuel fitting swap on a 1959 Elgin….super easy. Here is the motorside fitting (surely they can begotten cheaper than this):

                    jpatti75 – thanks for that part#! My recollection was the barb end was longer on the one I found so it would have sufficient length to reach through the pan. However, if it worked on your ’59 Elgin that should also work on all the other 5.5, 7.5 and 12hp ones back to ’55 – and I think on the WB motors the fitting isn’t angled, so it would not need to be as long.

                    I will be honest that we have had just miserable luck with aftermarket Chrysler/Force connectors. (I am fairly certain that the shoddy fitment of the aftermarket West Marine/Atwood connector is why my son Hurricane Harry lost the semi-final race with his classmates in the Cocktail Racer he built in school last spring) After that fiasco and problems others have reported, I have sworn off ever buying another and will pay the additional $6 for the Mercury sourced fuel connector. (There are visible differences in them.)

                    Though it is possible that when mated to an aftermarket male fitting, they may work – or work better….. 🙄

                      Yep, that’s the same male connector I bought, but my female connector looks a bit different. I got a nut for the back side of it and clamped it to the cover. I am fairly sure the ones I bought were quicksilver branded. I have not to date had any leaking, but I only have a few hours on them at this time.

                        I will chime in and say the aftermarket hose fittings are total crap. Mine wouldnt snap all the way on the motor fitting and leaked when forced on. I threw it away. The Merc part worked perfectly.
