Here is the make fitting installed in the ’59 Elgin I used to have. I can’t remember which brand of tank line fitting I had, but it was a reliable one. I want to say it was an old Moeller one, but I can’t remember for sure. The Elgin is now in a friend’s collection, and I can always ask him if needed.

That’s exactly how it looks on my WestBend as well. I just spun a nut on the back side with a little blue locktite and ran the hose to it.

There’s a ball in the engine-side fitting that’s meant to keep fuel from dripping out, when you disconnect the gas line. When the gas line is connected, the tank-end fitting holds that ball open so that fuel can flow. If you just connect a hose to the engine end fitting directly, odds are that the fuel pump won’t be able to pull fuel by that ball.

          Long live American manufacturing!

Bill – the Chrysler male fitting has the check ball, the earlier West Bend male fitting does not. Since my West Bend fitting was leaking air until Jim M recently sent me the material to fix it, I’ve logged a lot of hours with the straight hose adapter!

I meant "ran the hose to the motor side of the fitting", not the tank side. I have the female end of the fitting on the tank side.
