This spring is missing on my motor and i’m having all kinds of trouble with fuel delivery….i think. The picture is the spring on another FD-11. But even without the spring, the cam follower seems to stay tight to the cam on the mag. I also found a small crack in the fuel line at the fuel connector boss. It was a bit wet underneath it but not like i would expect. Still, with that crack in the line, the pressure in the tank would be affected and could potentially cause a fuel delivery issue, right?

Here’s the weird thing though. Last night I put in new spark plugs and took it to the lake tonight. Still the same problems as mentioned in my spark plug thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12740). Got home, pulled the plugs and they’re all fouled up. Not really wet, just oily and black. Would that happen if the cylinders were starved for fuel due to that crack in the line?

The crack in the fuel line has to be big enough to bleed off pressure faster than the motor puts pressure in the tank to affect how it runs, but it will, like you found, leak gas and will only get worse.

Oily and wet spark plugs are the result of too much gas, not gas starvation. Be sure you carb float is working properly if you know your needles are adjusted right. Also check spark plugs to be sure you are running the proper heat range.

The spring keeps tension on the cam follower to help bring the throttle plate back to closed when you slow down. There is a spring on the throttle shaft as well, but you should have this cam follower spring. You can get one at a good hardware store.

Oily and black plugs are likely from improper adjustment of the carb, or motor not getting warmed up.

Since plugs didn’t fix it, and based on what you said before, I’d say it is time to pull the flywheel and check the points.
