look on the plate on the leg to be sure.
February 6, 2017 at 4:35 pm #52520looks like a 1946 or 1947 Mercury model # (KD-3) 3.2 HP single.
I just picked up the Wizard version of this on Sat it is a WD-3
The Mercury’s were silver while the Wizard’s were painted gold
and sold by Western Auto Stores.February 6, 2017 at 8:50 pm #52531He said it’s 5hp.
February 6, 2017 at 11:26 pm #52547At a right price maybe…lack of cowl, broken cavitation plate, damaged gas cap, and it has been out in weather for a spell. Probably a 1946 Mercury KD3. Does the seller have the cowl?
If seller is realistic about value worth a shot….$25 stuck to $50 turns over… this outboard
has issues that may mean two piles of parts…good and junk… despite your best efforts.
Been there Done that. The fuel outlet boss seems to me small as on the prewar tank
Tag is on starboard side as in post war models…mixed parts motors are not unknown
Gas cap appears to have a bolt instead of vent cap. Minor item but more expense to do
a correct restoration.

😉Yeah, and they are fine runners, when right. I’d go $75 tuning over, for that. (If stuck, I agree with the $25 number.) You don’t always have to do a complete restoration to enjoy a motor…..As long as you can breathe a little two-stroke smoke, all is right with the world.
Long live American manufacturing!
February 7, 2017 at 2:29 pm #52582They all did not come with the front cowl from the factory.
Has the tag been looked at for the model #####February 7, 2017 at 3:56 pm #52586Great shot of the weathered flywheel cover. If it had been a Johnson it would have given us a model number. LOUSY shot of the model/serial number tag. . . 🙄
