I have a few gallons of old fuel mix. Some I mixed last year at 24-1 and just never used, nor thought to put stabilizer in it. Some came with a purchased boat and is unknown as to age and mix–though it *should* be 50-1. Wondering about the best way to get rid of it. What do people think?
August 30, 2017 at 2:16 pm #64034I would get rid of the unknown boat gas through a recycle facility. I add some to used motor oil everytime I recycle it. Our city barn uses it to heat their building in the winter, and they take it free.
The gas/oil that you mixed last year I would add to the fresh boat gas you are presently using a half a tank at a time to use it up.August 30, 2017 at 2:19 pm #64035I take mine to the municipal garbage dump. There is a State/ Dept of Ecology program that takes gas and other hazardous items for free. They only except these items on certain days of the week.

has waste oil furnaces in the shop.
He said some gas mixed with all the oil in the
tank is ok.Steve A W

I live in Northwest IndianaAugust 30, 2017 at 3:03 pm #64038Back when I was running 2 Farmalls they got the old fuel and loved it. Also left-over chainsaw fuel.
August 30, 2017 at 3:05 pm #64039Add 5 ounces of oil per gallon of unknown mix and go for a boat ride…
The extra oil will ensure you have enough lubrication and you get to enjoy more water time…
Seriously you can still run it, so …run it..

August 30, 2017 at 5:04 pm #64045To the best of my knowledge it is perfectly acceptable (environmentally) to pour it into a shallow pan and let it evaporate. I save it as "wash gas" and wash parts. I also burn stuff including papers I would otherwise shred. In rural areas, working around your property, you usually have a fire going. In suburban areas lots of folks have an "ambience" fire pit in the back yard. Ever tried to burn used motor oil ? Forget it. The stink will attract nosy neighbors.
"Fox News" isn't.
August 30, 2017 at 6:16 pm #64049My 1986 3/4 ton 454 Suburban is a real dinosaur in that it has no catalytic converter or onboard ECM. This is also a rather thirsty machine. I run old gas through it in diluted form. Of course, not talking about phase separation ethanol gas failure, but a bit old, and it runs just fine. I do make sure I screen it through a coffee filter before use just to make sure I don’t dump a bunch of junk into my tank. It holds 40 gallons, so adding two gallons to a tank is not going to hurt a thing.
