      Hi guys,

Just got a CMC 130 tilt/trim unit to use with my ’68 100 hp Johnson outboard. Can’t use the existing transom bracket for the steering tube since the motor will be set back 6" and the existing set up for the ACCO steering line won’t allow the motor to tilt without binding. I have seen the steering tube brackets that clamp under a motor’s transom bracket screws, but this motor has the two brackets that mount on the outside of the transom and the motor slides down into them. Any idea for the best set up for this application?

You could look into a front mount steering kit from T & R Marine. The kit is listed on Marine Engine under Boat Accessories, steering section, page 2. Comes in stainless for salt water & a fresh water kit. I looked at the CMC trim kit too. Not sure it will fit inside of it, but if the motor can be jacked up then it may mount high enough to clear? I am always leery to recommend steering applications unless someone is involved who knows exactly what they are doing. Especially as the horsepower goes up.

Check out this kit to see if this will work. Closest thing I can find that might fit your application. Hope it helps?

          Dan,

Thanks! I had seen the older versions of that setup. Didn’t know someone still made them. May post an add in the For Sale/Wanted section to see if someone has an old one laying around, otherwise, a new one is a good option.
