Will let you know if I find out more about the 9.5 tomorrow!
Prepare to be boarded!
September 25, 2015 at 8:53 pm #24605And the winner is…… 1971 !
It’s a Johnson 9R71R.
Looks complete, but froze up.
No idea if it’s from sitting or had a melt down.
What’s a froze up Johnson worth?Prepare to be boarded!
September 25, 2015 at 9:08 pm #24606Yeah, right after I posted, I remembered that the ’70 models had some "pennants," flags, whatever, on the side. But it was too late!
The thing that threw me though, was that I thought ’71 models had more on the side than just the name and a sea horse. Kind of like this:

Long live American manufacturing!
September 25, 2015 at 9:40 pm #24607Not to jack Bucc’s thread, but, I just inherited the same motor from my brother.
He said it was mid-’80s but I doubt it. He also said it was a Johnson, but the
serial number "E" says it is an Evinrude. Has sat in his shed for at least 10 years
so needs a total going over.
Model: 9922S Serial: E12356
and I can’t find a listing of this one anywhere.
Thanks.
September 25, 2015 at 9:46 pm #24608That one would be a ’69.
September 25, 2015 at 10:32 pm #24609Thanks Mumbles….. now I can order the soft parts for it
and get it on the go (hopefully).September 25, 2015 at 11:12 pm #24610quote BillW:Yeah, right after I posted, I remembered that the ’70 models had some “pennants,” flags, whatever, on the side. Bill
You are right, the 71 models did have that little rectangular applique in front of the Johnson decal, I guess the little engines didn’t use the applique, I was looking for it also.Update:
OK, just figured out why I was cornfused:

The rectangular applique is on the back of the engine cover on the smaller 1971 models, not the side.
Geez, I got to get a life.September 25, 2015 at 11:13 pm #24611quote Johnny_inFL:Not to jack Bucc’s thread, but, I just inherited the same motor from my brother.

It is an Evinrude, but that E in the serial number only means it was built in the Evinrude plant in Milwaukee, but so were the little Johnsons, so they would have the E in front of the serial number also.September 27, 2015 at 8:57 pm #24718ah so, thank you for that little tid-bit.
told my brother it was a ’69 Rude vs mid ’80s Johnson . . .
all he said was " I just run ’em – I don’t date ’em" LOL.Thanks
