Just picked up this waterwitch. Anyone know exact year or where the numbers might be. Its a single cylinder. I have a 37 2 cylinder and numbers are on flywheel. No numbers on this flywheel that i can see. Thanks.<!–more–>

I believe your rope sheave should be aluminum with the model number on it.

Your serial number is on the right side , stamped near the lower edge of the crankcase, something like  S25000 for example.

The serial number would indicate year per the list.

Ok. I see number on side. Looks like S30707. I looked in to it. Looks to be a 39. Thanks. Rope sheave plate is rusty and no sign of numbers?

The early motors have an aluminum rope sheave
as Harry has stated but later motors have a steel
one. You may find a model number stamped
under what’s left of the decal. The number you
have found indicates the year as Harry has stated.

Your sn S30707 is from early 1939.  That corresponds with a 1939 model of 571.11

I’m anxious to dig in to this one. Only a couple screws missing.otherwise a very complete motor in pretty good shape. Seems to have good compression. Unfortunately i seem to be collecting outboards a little faster than working on them 🙂. Thank you all for the help!

Nice gas tanks and the front cover are the
items in demand on these. There are a lot
of these motors out there but finding both in
good condition is unusual. You’ll find out
why the front cover is often missing when
                    you begin working on yours.

You might find your model number if you carefully sand the rope sheave with 220 or 400 grit sandpaper, while dusting it off and checking repeatedly with a good light held at an angle.  It shows up sometimes during the sanding.   You see where it should be in Tubs picture.

To remove the front shrouds, don’t try to remove the small nut & knob.  Just unscrew the whole needle assy all the way out.  Maybe unscrew the needle packing nut also to get the shroud off.
