Hello again fellow motor buffs. Got another little question I am sure I will get a quick response for. What is the difference between a Johnson FD11 and a FD11K? I have an opportunity to pick up 2 of them but I may be only able to get one. Which should I choose? I know they are both 57’s and I have an FD 11 already, but the more the merrier!!!! Thanks in advance once again. Bill

I’ve seen that question asked now and then….I might have even asked it myself at some point. The general consensus is that suffixes like that may well denote a certain model run or whatever….but have little or no significance for our purposes.

Here’s a PDF of OMC models…..it explains what most of the other letters mean…..but the suffixes are just shown grayed out with no further information.

The suffix identifies any mid-year changes in the model–IF there were any changes. Sometimes it means nothing.

EDIT: I just looked. That was the year they changed the prop shaft seal diameter—-another often-asked question. They also changed the pivot pin in the lower unit.

As Frank states, the prop shaft seal was the major change.

On a side note, The Evinrude 18hp also changed the prop shaft seal at serial number 22,000, just an FYI
