Lloyd, I remember you and your beautiful boats and motors! It’s great to see you’re still having fun with these old things. I joined up in or around 2006. I think we talked on the phone way back about buying an R. I went back to racing mini sprints in 2011 and back riding a dual sport motorcycle, mostly off-road, in 2013 therefore haven’t been on here much. I still go boating as much as time allows and all I have right now is old motors. In fact, I was given an Evinrude 4357 the other day. That nudged me to tackle the ’57 Fastwin and resurrect this old thread. Great to hear from you!

'48 Zephyr, restored '06, runs great
'54 Fastwin, restored '09, runs great
'57 Fastwin, unrestored, locked up in 2018

You are sooo right Andy, no better feeling/experience…. That poor old Fastwin looks like somebody just scooped it up from the bottom of the pond and let it dry out! I can just imagine all the disapproving looks you were getting, would have loved to see their jaws drop when the old girl fired right up, took off, never missing a beat! One thing I have learned over the years is to “never judge a book by its cover”….
These engines were OMC at its best….Such a shame they couldn’t be produced today, they would fly off the shelves and the Johnson plant in Waukegan could be rebuilt….Too bad we never appreciated these engines when we had them in our youth….. Good thing they can still be found in dumpsters and scrap piles!

Great story on the Fastwin …reminded me of all the looks I got when I cruised in the local beach with my beautiful Crosby “Cruisette” …along side all the fancy power boats and ladies sunning themselves on decks and pontoons .

At least my rig had 2 bunks, a non-environment friendly head and wash basin with an overhead water tank

Andy. If you get tired of pushing that big Crestliner with your Fastwin I have a friend here locally that wants to sell his choice Model R due to his age. It’s expensive, but I would buy it myself if I didn’t already have 2 Model R’s. Lloyd 231-929-7479 or Bob Flannery 231-946-8188
