the top one, boot and spring
September 6, 2025 at 9:54 am #299667September 6, 2025 at 10:44 am #299671I like the spring type, even though they are a pain to install correctly
September 6, 2025 at 12:26 pm #299674not really.. a touch of grease will let them slide in backwards as you pull the wire back
I like the springs one also but all my latest jobs used Belden automotive solid strand 7mm with boots molded on. they are a it long I just snip a bit off … the prices have exploded but I have enough left.

September 9, 2025 at 11:46 am #299742I use both. Malory clip and spring type. using the Malory crimping tool works best. Dawn for slippery it will dry out. dielectric grease for the spring and clips so you don’t have to pull on the boot so hard. I do reuse the original boots. they look original. I don’t think what is inside matters
Note: During a misfire episode going across the lake. you think to yourself is it the spring boot as the mark 20 drops on cyl?
September 21, 2025 at 6:35 am #300031I buy the Johnson/Evinrude ones.

December 1, 2025 at 10:03 pm #301988I have used these in the past but prices are now crazy(was <50$/kit)… solid strand and I just shorten the boots to regular size.

December 2, 2025 at 11:15 am #301998I buy a universal, solid core, spark plug wire set meant for old tractors at a local Tractor Supply store. They come with the spark plug terminal and boot already molded onto the end, and the other end is just the wire; so all I have to do is cut the wire to the length I need and do what’s necessary to hook up to the coil. They can also be bought online:
