A fellow member asked me how to remove the white aluminum oxide powder he was finding on his barn find motor. It occurred to me that I don’t know how, except to use steel wool. That has its own side-effects.
Can this material be reduced to aluminum with a liquid, the way rust can be converted?
Must it be mechanically removed? If so, what is best? Blast media?
Would that NAPA aluminum brightener work on the water jackets surrounding the cylinders to deal with salt water corrosion ? Do you need to nuetralize it after applying? I’ll have to check it out.

The product is a protector, but the instructions are for pre-application cleaning. I found the info on Feathercraft.net where some members have used the process to refurbish anodized classic Feathercrafts.
