Is it an “old style” points and condenser unit? If so,
it would be worth a gamble to me…. assuming it
turns over with decent compression. Has to be worth
more than that in parts.

That’s an “Auto-Transmission” model as you most likely are already well aware.  I have a couple of them and have enjoyed seeing how they work and what it takes to do basic waterpump service. 

So;  my feeling would be that for $50.00 you would be buying yourself a lot of experience and enjoyment. 

Unless it’s a salt-water model.  Then I would pass.

Ah the infamous Mercury automatic transmission. Ranks right up there at the top of the list of motors I love to hate. Even the local Mercury dealer refused to accept them into their shop for repair. But I suppose it would be a good learning experience if you can get it at the right price. That would be about $49.98 less than the asking price. He-he.

funky transmission and impeller ….I think i’ll pass this one.   the seller has my coordinates and if he wants to give it a good home I am certain he will drop me a note.

Currently reviving a 7.5hp mdl 75 Merc.

with strong PSI,s   and good sparks.    waiting for carb kit  and  skeg work to be finished.

not a money maker for sure but less than an afternoon at the Casino.  🙂

I have one of those. it wasn’t that hard of a job changing the impeller. once you do your homework. Sometimes there won’t be a telltale, and it could be the hole is plugged.
