      Will Johnson RDS-20 1958 35 hp prop shaft work in 1955 25 hp RD-17??
I know they have different part numbers but I was hoping the only difference is the threaded end versus no threaded end.
Also-Is it a must to have a thrust washer with a plastic prop nut???
The no threaded end prop shaft uses the plastic prop nut.
      Info:
1958 35 hp prop shaft 305104/312867 (Has no threaded end)
1955 25 hp prop shaft 302522 (threaded end)

I haven’t checked it out, but I think the dog splines are different (???) With that, they might be interchangeable if you replace enough other parts with it.
The washer is there to prevent a spinning prop hub from knocking the nut off and losing the prop.

I believe that all of the components from the 58 gear case will set in the 55 gear case. I know there’s is a difference in the clutch dog ears depth and then the gears for that dog, which gave the later design a longer life. Like frankr said, you’ll have to replace all the parts around it but it will work.
