      Hi all,

Looking for some instructions for wiring a kill switch on a 18 hp Evinrude. Should be pretty simple, but have never done one. One wire goes to a good ground, does the other go to the points? Do a have to pull the flywheel to connect the second wire?

      Thanks for the help.

Both wires go to the points. There should already be two black wires connected.
One of the two sets of points will always be closed (grounded)

What kind of kill switch are you installing? Is it a stop switch to turn it off, or is it a safety switch with a lanyard to turn it off if you fall overboard?

The motor came with a stop switch, so the wires should already be there. If you are installing a lanyard switch, connect it to the same two wires going to the stop switch (leave it connected also)

Neither type of switch needs a ground connection.

            Thanks Phil and Frank,

I am looking to do the safety lanyard. It doesn’t have a stop switch installed, but I will look for the wires. I am putting it on a 50’s Flyin’ Flivver 8 footer that I just picked up and want the safety lanyard in case my daughters go overboard while driving it.

The wires should be there. Or easy to put back if somebody chopped them off. (Why would anybody do that anyway?)
