I still haven’t been able to get the lower half of the driveshaft
out of the gear case so I can pull the prop shaft and gears,
but in the mean time, and wondering how to "safest" replace
the broken bronze skeg. The broken off skeg only sticks
up from the gear case about 1/8", so not enough meat
there to rivet a new one onto the old one.
I’ve never tried to "braze" bronze, and don’t want to ruin
      this gear case. 😮
Would it work to make a skeg out of 1/8" brass plate with
a groove in the edge that would go over the broken skeg,
      and silver solder it on?
      Ideas???
      Thanks.
