Well as I can’t remove this now, for some content, I wonder what this early RBM gear case ended up being used for? Its on eBay as “Vintage 1920s Brass Outboard Motor Lower Unit Johnson”. Don’t know what it came from but it wasn’t a Johnson. Only 2 screws so I suspect its early

                  Could be an early Johnson….
And I am doing just fine, spent most of the day getting my diesel truck started… it was -7 this morning, had not been started in over a month so batteries were a tad on the weak side. She starts now so ready for this snow coming in..

                    Tubs,

I saw that one too and wondered about it. Unlike any Johnson I’ve ever met!

I’m pretty sure that its not Johnson as I don’t think Johnson manufactured and outboards before there aluminum Water Bug in 1922. I’d be learning something new if that’s not true. Changed the title to attract those who are knowledgeable in those things. Looks like someone plunged the pump hole to keep the grease in and used it as a 90 degree drive.

Edited to correct one error and add a photo

Likely from a model BN, AB or even AB-25 Johnson. its been severely altered/modified/mangled, so its only a WAG what they might have been using it for. The upright support brace is missing and skeg has been cut off. Its only useful to the unknowledgeable person who can be led to think its something that it isn’t. Or you can buy it knowing what it is and hope that the gears are still useful, because I don’t see much that is visible that could be.

He's livin' in his own private Idaho..... I hope to go out quietly in my sleep, like my grand-dad did..... and not screaming, like the passengers in his car...
