      Hi All. Your help and advice again please.
      Attached are photos of the block and cylinder head that I have lapped.
      Going on the photos, do I need to do any more lapping?……..the bungs in the block are to keep the grindings from going down the bore.
      NOTE The welding repair on the water jacket………head bolt hole to be rebored

        Monte,
        I am no expert but the reason one laps the gasket mating surfaces is to take any warpage out of the block and head. From your pictures, you have lapping marks all over the gasket area which is what you want, I believe. I would not worry about the tiny marks that I see. The more you lap and take away material, the more you raise up compression. It looks good to me!

            Thanks Rick and fleetwin for your replies…….much appreciated.
            I didn’t think there was any need to go any further, but I was concerned mainly with the block having a lot of corrosion.

              Hi Rick and Fleetwin and others………thought you would be interested in a progress report on the motor since my last post re lapping.
              I have bored out two stripped threads in the block and installed helicoils………my first experience with helicoils!
              The job went well. I then replaced the head using a new gasket, torqued the bolts to 70 inch lbs, fitted the flywheel and tested the compression (three times) which gave readings of 73lbs on one cylinder and 76 lbs on the other. Needless to say that I am very pleased with the results.
