Would the diaphragm fuel pump and carb work okay
with a inline filter in the gas tank hose, assuming
the filter stays relatively clean? The fuel pump and carb on this 1960 Scott 7.5 is
integrated, hence a filter can’t be installed in between
the two. There’s a tiny screen (like chainsaws) in the carb, otherwise
there’s no other filtration. The only problem, the powerhead
has to be removed to work on the carb.Prepare to be boarded!
March 18, 2023 at 6:36 pm #274107I don’t know any reason it wouldn’t work fine.

March 19, 2023 at 1:21 am #274119I used an in-line chain saw filter on my 54 Firestone 7.5 ahead of the motor & never had any issues.
March 19, 2023 at 6:40 am #274120On my McCullough 9, (almost identical-looking motor) there is an OEM fuel line connector of the small, bayonet style, that looks like it would also be a fuel pump….but it’s a filter. I would post a picture, but it’s taken apart right now.
Long live American manufacturing!
March 19, 2023 at 9:05 am #274123I ordered a couple of inline, 1/4″ barbed filters, advertised
as “motorcycle” filters. I would think they would do it.
I forget how many “microns” in filtration.Prepare to be boarded!
March 20, 2023 at 2:40 pm #274199If the item you are installing has a screen inside it, it is meant for gravity fed systems. If it has a paper filter, it is meant more for pump systems as found on lawn tractors. The screened one will work with a pump but it’s not such a good idea to use a paper filter in a gravity system.
Years ago I thought I was smart and installed an inline automotive filter in the fuel line to my 55 horse Chrysler. It didn’t work very well as the filter clogged up killing the motor. The tanks were fairly clean so I think the element inside was so fine it wouldn’t let the oil in the mix pass through. Not sure.
March 20, 2023 at 3:31 pm #274202Mumbles, I have to think that the filters I ordered are some kind of
paper element, but not sure. It does say that they are 60 micron
filtration, which according to a conversion chart, is just a little
over .002. That could be a problem.https://www.ebay.com/itm/394423150566
