I am trying to open up the gear case on the motor, but the screws won’t budge. Thought I would come here for help BEFORE destroying the screw head. I am looking for tips on how to get them out. Obviously they are screws, so they should unscrew, but I was wondering if there was locktite used on them, or if they are just corroded in place?

Hello All.
I have a 1955 RD-17C 25Hp and I’m at the ‘fire it up’ stage of the project.  I have a 309864 test prop but I understand its incorrect for this motor.  I haven’t been able to locate the correct prop, 388295 test prop.   from my research I believe the prop is for later models and wont provide the correct resistance resulting in higher than desired rpms while tuning. Could I ask the general audience on thoughts regarding this topic?  I usually just get it close, then tune it on the water.  It would be nice to have it more accurately tuned before I get on the water.

Hi AOMCI Fam.,

Hoping for assistance. I have a Johnson RD-15 (25HP) which I’d like to convert to electric start. I’ve done an electric start conversion for a 1955 RD-17 and have a good understanding of the process. What I need help with is identifying the right compatible part numbers and models of motors to gather parts from.

Compatible parts I’m looking for:
Flywheel

Electric starter motor

Bracket for starter motor

I am restoring a 1955 Johnson 25 RD17

Is there another Float anyone knows of that is close to the original? I have the original, but the metal clip is not tight and the coating is peeling,  I can’t find a replacement for the original part #0375792

1955 Johnson 25 Automatic Ignition Cut-Out help

Hello, restoring a 1955 RD-17, it has a cut-out switch, it needs a ground wire from it to the magneto to cut the bottom cylinder spark.

Can someone please tell me where it connects on the magneto? I assumed it was the negative post of the bottom cylinder points? There is not a hole in magneto plate to get wire up,

Thank you guys for the helpful tips/info! I have been working on a 1955 Johnson Seahorse RD-17C 25 HP. Finally after two years of no luck, the motor final works! I had a carb that just wasn’t working after loads of restoring efforts. I’m really just looking to read more about the motor, see what others have struggled with, some fine tuning guidance and also would love to hear what folks are getting for speed/performance. Looking forward to going through the forums!
