I just finished a restoration of a Handitwin. Where does the little OBC horsepower medallion hang?
Thanks
Greg

February 22, 2016 at 5:10 pm #32346What’s with the "medallions"? What info is on them?
Were they just on Evinrude / Elto’s, and for how many
years? Any close up photos for us Medallion challenged people?Prepare to be boarded!
February 22, 2016 at 9:16 pm #32351They were on Elto/Evinrude’s of the 30’s stating the "certified brake horsepower" rating of each motor by way of the Outboard Motor Association.
They are usually missing from the motor…but the Handitwin I just finished restoring still had one.

The medallions with the NOA rating would have been issued after the industry changed to that method of horsepower rating, which, IIRC, was 1933 or so.
The aluminum tag, I have seen those on many motors built earlier than 1933. Usually I find them on a carb needle valve. Who put them there, and when I have no clue. I have a couple of Lockwood Chiefs that came with those tags wired to the carburetors. One is a mint original motor that came in a Lockwood shipping crate, so I’m thinking it was hung there at the factory, but who knows….
Look in the directory portion of the Outboarder, seems somebody was advertising repopped NOA medallions in there.. if all else fails, look on Fleabay
Best,
T2February 23, 2016 at 5:41 pm #32395I don’t have the proper outboard to display a medallion, but
they sure add a touch of class to the outboard.
Perhaps I’ll drill a hole in a 50 cent piece and hang
it on my Hiawatha when I’m done!Prepare to be boarded!
