I believe a recent outboarder had a article about that starter.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

August 10, 2025 at 9:40 am #298831Tubs, yes to Tomahawk, via an ad in the classifieds.
I dug through all the “Antique Outboarder” mags I could
find, but didn’t find the one I’m looking for with the Owens
Dyneto starter on the cover. Will keep digging!Prepare to be boarded!
August 10, 2025 at 11:09 am #298832If I remember right it was an article by Chris Scratch. He is very knowledgeable about them. I may have read about them somewhere else. Memory is faulty. Hope I didn’t send you on a wild goose chase.

August 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm #298839The starter-generator on the later Sportfour is basically the same unit as the round one except it has an extra housing added onto the front to hide the wiring and provide attachment points for the gauge and switch(es).
I have written articles on electric start motors (a 1930 Quad and 1931 Super C) and I’ve worked on and run several of them, but that doesn’t mean I know more about them, it just means I’m more familiar with them than some folks. I did always include wiring schematics in the articles, FWIW. Basically the same as what was scanned and posted and is available as has been pointed out.
Best

August 10, 2025 at 5:34 pm #298843One thing I will point out is that the Owen (no “s”)-Dyneto starter used on Johnson outboards was wired for 6 volts but all the other outboards with the starter-generator were wired for 12 volt positive ground.
Best,
