Howdy all, I was referred to this forum by a guy from tinboats.net I’m currently rebuilding an old 1950 Wizard WF-4 6hp super twin. What I’m trying to figure out is what’s my fuel/oil ratio. I have heard 3/4 a pint of oil per gallon. Is this so? Also what kind of oil should I be using? Thanks in advance guys and gals

My chart says 3/4 pint per gallon. Opinions will vary, some according to whatever you want to hear.

same as mercury. 50-1 will work fine I run at least 40-1 with the newer oils.

I didn’t think anything that old would run on 50:1 😯

I run at least 25:1 in all my 50s motors and actually closer to 20:1. Oil is cheaper than trying to find parts for old motors.

I think Dave is saying he uses 50:1 oil, but mixes it 40:1.

                  Hope this makes sense.

Yes that is what I was saying.
when mercury came out with 50-1 oil they sent a bulliten out that said it could be used in All mercury outboards that were full jewlled . used with 50-1 oil at 50-1. we did back then and had no problems. I used it in mark 7 mark 20 mark 25 mark 30 mark 28A merc 350 merc 450 just to name a few.

So mercury 50-1 oil then. Trying to find the best brand. I don’t know the easiest way to figure it all out so I might take the easy way and just mix in 3/4 a pint into every gallon

I have a few old Mercs & I always use Mercury brand oil . I tend to run a little rich on oil too as it helps old seals function.
I use OMC oil in those too. My Scotts get Merc oil.
