I need to replace the coils on a 1952 Firestone (Scott Atwater) 5HP motor. I have seen the videos referring to an “OMC Generic Coil” as a suitable replacement. What is the part number for an “OMC Generic Coil”?
December 17, 2025 at 11:45 am #302385I would suggest that you stick to the genuine OMC coil as they are of good quality and the coil slides off the laminate easily. Some of the aftermarket coils have the coil glued to the laminates making separation more difficult.
Your Scott needs to have the smaller of the two laminates….appx 1/2″ for this to work. Some of the Scotts had larger appx 3/4″ laminates. Fortunately on those….the coils rarely go bad.

Two differebt ign systems/!

The coils Tubs is referring to are not CDI coils, they just happen to be made by a company with the initials “CDI”. Can be confusing.

Absolutely correct David! This company makes all kinds of ignition parts for many types of outboards. Hard drive and mother boards about anything electrical they are first rate. A little expensive but good products.
